Default Restore body back to its' former glory

I recenty purchased a 1990 Yahama G2 cart. The body seem stock but I notice white powder on my hands or clothes when I touch the body.

Is the body made of plastic and would something like a rubbing compound restore the body?

What the best way to restore a G2 body without repainting it?

Any feedback are welcome and thank you

Bill

If its shedding powder, Its too far gone for a "buff job". Wash & scrub to try to get rid of powder, if that dont work, Sand & paint is the next thing. The problem is, if its shedding powder, its now very porous, and too rough for any regular polish to handle.

I would get a soft brush, and mix up bleach and water and wash it down. See what you have then. Bleach works really well to clean them up I spray it on with a pump up sprayer (diluted as label says for cleaning solution, not that much in a gallon of water) and let it set for a few minutes, sometimes I let it dry in the sun, then wash it down good. Needless to say don't mix it too strong and remember it can take the color out of your clothes.

You could try a scratch pad on it white (just like the dish washing scrathchy pads with no abrasive) or gray (very fine abrasive) that would clean it without scratching it up, but I don't know how bad yours is. You can also use the tilex shower cleaner to remove black stuff that gets on boat interiors and golf carts, stay out of the vapors lol.

I don't know if you could wet sand it down, I have only done it to paint and so I didn't use really fine you would need to keep a good finish. I painted over 800 grit that would be too course you need to hit with 1000/1200 and then 1500/2000 to try to buff it out eventually I would guess. They do make buffing compounds for plastic just like the stuff for headlights. You can't use anything course on it if you plan to make it pretty without paint.

I saw that at WalMart the other night on the "As seen on TV" shelf and I was wondering if that would work on a golf cart.

I think first I will give it a good soap and water scrub down and try some mold spray on the seats since there some black stains on it which look like it may be molds. Maybe even blench it after a scrub down.

If it doesn't get rid of it then I probably order some new seat covers for it. I found a set of seat covers on E-bay for 135 dollars which seem pricey but I guess material made for outdoor uses is pricey.

If it come to worse, then buy a bunch of can spray paints and re-paint it.

Oh is the body plastic or fiberglass? Or it some different type of material?

If plastic then shouldn't it doesn't matter if i buff it down since the color is plastic itself not a paint on top of it?

It was light tan, the top layer of "dust stuff" is now sun bleached . Believe it or not, all yamahas were light tan back then (and most every other cart was tan or white). Not much color choices back then.
