Default 2011 G29 "Drive" Burning Oil

End of last golf season the cart started to smoke. This year the cart was smoking to start the season. It would smoke as soon as I started running it for a bit then stop. Smelt like it was burning rich.
I checked the oil level and thought it was a touch high so I drained it all out then added 1qrt to get the level correct. Spark plug had lots of build up on it so I changed it. Checked the air box to make sure no oil was in it. I recently changed my clutches using plowmans because my primary was shot. I finally got the cart up and running for use on the golf course and was hoping I just had oil in the muffler from an overfill and it would burn out. It was still smoking on my initial take off. Today the oil light came on as I was finishing my round, so I stopped and checked the oil level. It was low and very black considering I just changed the oil on Sunday.

Does it sound like I have a oil ring issue? or can someone point me in the right direction.

Side note- Last year a friend put in bad gas and we had to clean and drain the tank
Thanks

well, you have already checked all external sources of oil to burn & checked oil level (& verified it is "eating"it). the only source of oil to consume is internal. looks like a rebuild is likely in your future. the compression is high for a G22 or newer motor (which all have compression release), leading me to believe compression release on cam may be stuck in the "no release/running position", but its a really simple system with no likelyhood of adding oil where it does not belong. the oil control rings (that scrape most of the oil off the wall, so it wont be present during combustion) on the piston have little effect on the engines overall compression, so the high reading is not a awesome "it cant be rings" point.

Thanks for the reply. I am not the most mechanically inclined and spent lots of time reading this site for help. Was really hoping a rebuild wouldn't be necessary being the cart is not that old. Guess that's what happens when you buy one used.
Thanks again
