Default Help please with custom light install on G16

I looked but couldn't find a post that answered my question. I do not currently have any lights on my cart. While I have the body off I wanted to run wiring for front and rear lights. I purchased a switch and a relay. I have never wired a relay and a switch setup before. Has anyone installed their own lights that can give me a run down of how to do it? Do I even need the relay? I'm ok with having the front and rear lights on the same switch.

Thank you

The relay is only necessary if you want to power up the lights thru the ignition switch. If not, run the wiring direct to the battery with an inline fuse on the +.

As long as your new light switch is rated to handle the current for the lights, you can skip the relay.

Ok that's what I thought. So 1 wire goes from + battery to switch. 1 wire goes to lights from switch and then ground the lights on - battery post?

Yes, except that I would add a fuse. It should look like this:

wire #1 - Battery + --> fuse --> switch --> lights
wire #2 - Battery - --> lights

Ok perfect. Any reason to send ground wire from switch?

Thanks

I go from the large lug on the selenoid ( the one that the battery + cable is attached to), then to a fuse, then to the switch, then to the lights, then to the ground lug on the end of the starter. Makes a nice, less cluttered install!!

Use good switch, not the ones from auto parts store. I use 110 volt 20 amp toggle switch from hardware store. They last forever!!

NO. That would be a short... 12v+ just passes thru the switch.
