Default G9 runs rough and backfires, good compression but no power

Hello all, I am new to the buggy world but will try to explain the issue I am having. I have a '92 G9 which I recently acquired. Initially, it would turn over and the cylinder would fire irregularly, sometimes pushing the engine backwards, and would backfire through both the exhaust and carb. I replaced the carb and plug which did nothing for the problem. I checked the spark and it seemed irregular and weak, so I replaced the TCI. This helped a bit but did not fix it, so I replaced the coil. The engine is running better (I tried replacing only the coil or only the TCI/ignitor, but the combination of both new gave the best result), but still backfires and skips. If I choke the engine, it improves, but has no power and runs hot. Any idea where the problem is? Seems like it could be either fuel or ignition, but carb is new, and most of the electrical is new. Compression runs about 160 psi, so engine seems OK. Are there other places electrical gremlins might hide? Anything I migh search for? Any recommendations (besides rolling it into a deep ravine) would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Sure sounds like you should look if your flywheel key is broken.

Well, I pulled the fly wheel, and the key was fine, so timing should be OK. Induction coil or solenoid? Any ideas where to look for the gremlin?

Have you checked the muffler for restriction?

Just for the heck of it, I'd take off the clutch cover and check for a broken weight!!
