G22A Blowing ground fuse
Hey guys, so this G22A we have keeps blowing the ground fuse. Ive gone through 2 solenoids that burnt out on me also. so since i just changed the solenoid, i went and cleaned and checked all ground connections making sure that a bad ground wasnt causing the solenoid to overheat. Now the ground fuse keeps blowing BUT the cart will start and run and function properly without the fuse in it.... what in the world is happening here? How is the cart functioning properly without a ground?

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
put your meter red probe on the battery positive post, and put your meter black probe on an exposed (bare area, no paint) part of the frame. If you get a voltage reading, something is grounded to frame.
Also, put car in a dark area, make sure all current drawing accessories and key switch is turned off. Then take negative battery cable off negative battery post and just touch it back to battery negative post, if you see a spark when touching them back together, there is a short or something is drawing current!! How many amp is the fuse that is blowing? Also, if you have any accessories (lights, radio etc) on the car, those should be wired totaly seperate from the cars electrical system!! MOST COMMON problems is grounded to frame, voltage regulator, and starter generator short. if you still have this after looking further and doing tests try this Seen this one before... Also seen two things fix it. One is remove rubber caps from starter/generator & blow all the carbon dust out, another is a voltage regulator issue. Installing a bigger fuse is a big no-no. I have seen this problem be so intermittent, that i never could find it. In that situation, i installed a 10a automatic resetting circuit breaker instead of fuse (plugs right in stock fuse holder). It will trip, and reset in a few seconds, the cart never exibited the problem more than once (a month), so it worked fine. |

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
blew fuses up to 30A, found a ground to frame from the lights. rewired it to battery but to no avail. The last mechanic here apparently just wired the key switch together to be always on as there is currently no key switch... WTF.... anyway, the only frame ground i can find is the one on the solenoid bolt to holds the solenoid onto the plate welded to the frame... also did continuity test from neg post to frame bolts, has continuity. However the ground on the solenoid mounting bolt is grounded to frame so shouldnt this be expected? should i try just running that ground to the battery ground?

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
Also, what is the deal with not grounding to the frame? is there a reason for this? with the current being put through the system whats the issue with having the frame grounded as it just provides another outlet for the current... and why cant you piggy back lights onto existing wiring? I have never seen any issues with this before so why would it be an issue on these carts? As long as the gauge of wire is large enough to power an accessory as well as the component its wired to, piggybacking shouldnt cause any issues... right?

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
My G14 did the same, only mine would run with the fuse perfect but once the fuse blew it ran like crud, had a couple mechanics look at it and changed out a couple parts $$$$$$ finally got it home turned out to be the brand new starter/gen I installed was shorted out on the inside. changed the starter never had a problem since.

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
Are you talking about the ground on the solenoid mounting bolt? Did you leave the ground on the bolt or move it to the battery?

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
my solenoid ground is still on the bolt holding solenoid.
may want to try this as cart still runs good either way https://www.waytekwire.com/item/4676...cuit-Breaker-/ |

Re: G22A Blowing ground fuse
I dont understand the whole frame grounding issue but in any case, since there is a frame ground at the solenoid mounting bolt, why am i having such a hard time? the only grounds i have found on the cart are by the flywheel on the block for the ignition kill, the solenoid mounting bolt, and then the battery neg. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE!? I am losing my mind testing and crawling around the ground trying to find any wires that are ground to the frame. Like i said, i have continuity from batter neg to frame bolts so somehow something is grounding but i cannot find anything other than that solenoid mounting bolt. Which would make sense since IT IS GROUNDED TO THE FRAME!!! this entire system is absolutely ridiculous, dont ground to the frame OH BUT THERES A GROUND THAT WE PUT TO THE FRAME AT THE FACTORY. I swear i am about to rip the entire **** stupid wiring harness out and make one that uses the frame as a ground. Help me before i throw a match in this things gas tank
