Default G1 major mods !

Sooo... I got a G1 a while back . I've been slowly making major mods to it . Complete engine overhaul , new carb , shaved head , removed all goveners . new belts and starter . I made a lift kit , 10" , added 22" wheels , added wheel spacers , and stretched the front of the cart out 4" ......... Ive run it , and it runs awesome !! BUT .... always wanting more ! LOL . Now to my question . I got a pipe off a 250 , 2 stroke dirt bike , got it cut and fit . took the cart out ...... It doesnt run nearly as good as it did with the stock muffler . My thought was , the tuned pipe would bring the motor to life ? It seems to have had the opposite effect . I'm hoping someone else out there has tinkered with this , and could offer some tips and or advice ...

first, gotta do the carb jetting to match the new exhaust flow. second, some have done mods with the yamaha "enticer 250" (i think its called). the jug ports on the G1 were designed for lower & mid rpm use, playing golf and all... the dirtbike pipe, not so much for golf cart rpms & noise levels. the port design on a 2 stroke has the same effect on horsepower as a big cam has on a 4 stroke engine. i have heard rumors of yamaha blaster reeds used on a G1 (never seen it myself). no matter what jug/exhaust/carb is used, they must all be tightly matched to meet the same goal, this is even more important on a 2 stroke engine than it is on a 4 stroke engine in my opinion. my buddy had a G1 with a dirtbike pipe & carb work, it performed pretty good (not like a dirtbike), coulda been better with port work. there are threads around here about reworking the G1 jug, and some about redoing the engine with a different jug for better performance.

whoa there...cant plan on doing just the reeds and "be done with it". its like putting a monster cam in a otherwise stock chevy 350, then planning on putting it around on the street all day with the ac on, it must be a matched system. like you found with the dirtbike pipe, the whole setup needs to be matched to perform. sorry about "beating a dead horse", but on a 2 stroke, one mis-matched part & the whole system will badly suffer (even possibly destroy the engine). usable G1 motors arent falling out of the trees these days, make a plan before throwing parts at it. other stuff to keep in mind, golf cart starter/generators, clutches, ect were not designed for a bajillion rpms either. when a clutch throws its weights out at any speed, its spooky (and puts dents in nearby cars), glad one didnt get me.

The G1 is a reed motor the enticer is piston port, but you can swap the jugs. The pipe will work but if you pipe for 7K and the ports are for 4K such as in this case, it wont work well. The pipe will need a longer header to lower its rpm hit, look at how long the header is on the G1 muffler it goes all the way through it. Other problem is if you hog the ports on the G1 jug it will reduce the compression that is already low, you can't deck the head that far or you hit the chamber. You just have to get around these issues then it can perform if you want to go that far. The jug needs some work to make it come out right or different piston. There are threads here about the G1 builds/engines you just have to search them up, try google this site for them. Some used blaster pipes on them. Then you have to clutch at the rpm you build for, which usually can't be done with stock clutches. If you port high rpm and use a pipe that rpm and a clutch that rpm, it will really go. Stock the G1 is set to have same powerband as a 4 stroke cart, yamaha used the same clutch on them both. Its set for about 3500-4K peak, though being a 2 stroke it will rev much higher if you let it. It is based off a 70s sled motor.
