Power loss after lift and with 4 people
Hi guys, new to the forum.
I just bought a 1998 G16 and put a lift and 23" tires, and rear seat on. Last weekend we went for a ride and uphill it is extremely slow and sluggish. - I adjusted the governer slightly right after putting the lift on, but not completely bypassed (with 2 people it runs a little better but still not like I think it should). by myself it will do about 20-21mph. - The belt seems loose, as it doesn't sit tight (like on a snowmobile). I can spin it without an issue, but I think I may have read they are a little different than a snowmobile set up. - I took it for a ride the next day with the seat off and it ran good with just myself and the secondary and primary seemed to be functioning properly. Is there any "must do's" for lifting and riding around with 4 people (extra weight)? Short of spending $300 on a performance kit from Plowman's? I checked the plug and it looks ok, fuel filter looks like its a little older but not clogged, air filter looks brand new, but it just doesn't seem to have the low end torque for going up hills. It loses power pretty bad, to the point that its about walking speed. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Power loss after lift and with 4 people
When you went to the 23" tires, you gave up alot of torque for climbing hills. It's important that the clutches be in tip top shape for the best performance. If you're going to start tossing money at the cart, the Performance Kit from Plowmans is probably the best bang for your buck. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks, Dave.
The guy I bought the cart from claimed that his family member owned a golf cart repair shop, and it was gone through every year. However, judging by how dusty and dirty the engine compartment is, I doubt the clutches have ever been serviced. |

No real service on the clutches except a shot or 2 of grease. Parts are replaced as they wear. The spacer behind the spring seat is important and will be obvious if not there. The spacer replaces the original c-clip, which will break.

You sound just like me 2 months ago. Have a G16 6" Lift and 23" tires. Hills it would not go up. Went on eBay and bough red clutch spring. Now it goes up hills no problem. You loose 1-2 mph but it get more low end power.
