Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Does anyone know, or know where there is a resource to identify the stock rear gear ratios of all the various Yamaha models?

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Don't really know, it may be 8x1. Take off the belt, push the car one tire revolution, and count how many revolutions the secondary clutch turns.

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Service manual for G2/G9 call's out forward-13.65:1/ reverse-15.25:1, with a primary reduction ratio of 3.2:1- 0.8:1. Yamaha's with the Dana (G16/G55) call's out forward-11.34:1/reverse-15.25:1, with a primary reduction ratio of 3.1:1- 0.8:1. It's basicly giberish to me, but hope it awnsers your question.

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Primary is the CVT, so on a G9 13.65x0.8 is the 'high' gear ratio you would have at top speed (.8 is overdrive), roughly 11:1, so add your tire size and that gives you rpm/speed at full shift. 13.65x3.2 would give you the 'low' gear ratio where the belt is not slipping (is engaged fully) but cvt not shifted, that would be your tow gear, holeshot gear, steep hill gear, etc. 13.65 is the ratio of input shaft from secondary clutch to the axles.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for. The reason, is because I am looking for a used cart to do another VC 460 swap. I am most interested in top speed. So, all other things being equal, I want a cart with the highest stock gear ratio. Looks like G16 and newer is where I'll start. |

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Both G2/G9 and G16/G22 transaxle's have high speed gears available. If you want to go fast...get a G22 with rack and pinion steering, you will not be sorry.

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
Here's a place to get some very high speed gears.

Re: Yamahas rear gear ratios?
HS gears is the only way to go for speed and road riding. Just be careful and you may need to upgrade brakes and steering, and be very careful about steering alignment.
