Default 1980 Yamaha G1 Differantial

I just purchased a 1980 Yamaha G1 Gas. It runs Great , but at high speeds , it has a high pitched Howl ,coming from the rear differential ....
I checked the rear axle oil and was half a quart low , but still howls.
Does anyone offer a complete rebuild kit with axles !? Or a new Rebuilt Rearend !? What are my options ??
Thanks , Troy

Sounds like you have some gears going bad. Usually from lack of oil or lack of maintenance. You don't really know until you take it apart. I would look for a used transaxle.

Yea, the axles themselves will show any wear. I don't think you'll need to replace those. It sounds like a bad bearing, maybe more than that.

I do have an extra differential for a G1 sitting in my shed. I switched to a G2 rear end when I changed to a 4 stroke engine.

It was common for that differential to make some noise. Obviously I cant hear the noise yours is making, but the early models made noise. Ive seen many individuals throw money at that diff, and the end result was the same....no change.
