tire size ? clearance
I have a 91 G2 with a 3 inch lift and 20 inch tires. Thinking of going to 22" tires and have clearance fully loaded. Any one have 22's with a 3" lift? If so, do tires hit frame when under full load(4 people) when you hit dips or bumps?
Thank you. |

Re: tire size ? clearance
I think you'll need a bit more lift to avoid rubbing with 4 people.

Re: tire size ? clearance
I can't speak for my yamaha yet , but I have a 5" lift on my EGO with 23's and have no issues with rubbing with 4 people on the cart.

Re: tire size ? clearance
I have 22x12s or something, they are huge wide tires and more round shape to them with big knobs. They hit the body low ahead of the tire with a load in the box. The rocker is already cut off. The front is fine, of course they are on offset wheels so they don't hit the inside.
I think you might get away with it depending on how wide they are, some people run 8 wide and they should hit less. Its typically the rear that hits on a G2/9. Mine hits way at the outer knobs. Also note I made the lift brackets and they stand the shocks up so they are harder, they still go down, you need HD springs to run a rear seat if you don't have them. Also I have about a finger thick between the rear bumper mount (the mudflap) and tire. My tire measures with a rule 23" tall, I run 12-15psi in the rears and 8 in front. This is why if you want to run 24s or more on a yamaha you have to cut off the bumper mounts then move the cradle mount lower and back a couple inches. This levels the cradle/engine back out (because that much lift angles it a lot) and moves the tire back to fit in the wheel well better. You can also figure a 1" taller tire is 1/2" bigger at tread so if you can fit your fingers around the tire that is over 1/2"....then you know it will fit (you would need to weight the cart down of course.) 2" means you need 1" space around the tire to fit it. But I love the big fat tires on my cart they float over anything like beach sand for example, look beefy, I don't care if they rub a little. But I only use it for hauling once in a while and just go slow, I don't ride people on the back hardly ever. |

Re: tire size ? clearance
I have 24 "'s on the back of my G14 with the 4" steeleng econo lift and bumper mounts cut. All this worked without changing the engine cradle at all.But I would say that is the engineering limit without MAJOR cart surgery.

Re: tire size ? clearance
When I put my clone in I lowered the front of the engine about 2" to help level it back out, when I made the mount. IIRC I am at 18" to the floor its about a 4" lift I think.

Re: tire size ? clearance
Plowmans rebuilt the rear shocks, made all the difference when loaded down. Offset rims are a must if I got taller tires.Have also cut the rocker back.Tightest spot is at rocker, 2" with load, so 2" taller tire = 1" off clearance. Tires will fit but we take rough rides sometimes and I dont want to bottom out and trash tires or cart.

Re: tire size ? clearance
Mine is cut back to the support, the plastic inside is cut and ziptied back. It will hit the corner of the plastic body above the rocker if I load the box with a lot of weight, like full of beach sand. But the cart is nearly lifting the front off the ground at that point. And my tires are wide with knobs on the side that hit. I only lifted it enough to haul moderate weight so I expect this. Even then the ride is not the softest on trails, lately I softened it up more (as I made adjustable mounts for my lift) and go real slow when I haul stuff, which is not that often anyway.
Really its not hard to make mounts for the rear and lift it enough to do what you want to do. The front has more room it should not hit I would think. I can find a pic of my mounts its just tube and plates really. This spot is higher and stiffer than stock but it rides harder. Leaning them forward is softer, while its actually slightly more lift on the shock it sits hair lower because the shock is softer when laid forward. |
