Thinking about going into the engine
My G2 runs like a top and uses no oil. Only problem is it rattles. It seems to be a harmonic thing. It has a sweet spot where it runs quietly. Any ideas.

Re: Thinking about going into the engine
Have you put it on jack stands to pin point the source of the rattle?

Re: Thinking about going into the engine
Have not put it on the Jacks but it is coming out of the engine. It almost sounds like a loud pre-ignition ping. Loudest when you take off or when you stomp on the gas. Once it settles in (removes load) it settles out. You can hear it (slightly)when it idles.
Can feel a click when rotating by hand. It happens around TDC. Pull the plug (compression) and it goes away. Checked for piston slack when I removed the head. Could not find any. Last edited by Project G2; 02-11-2009 at 01:34 AM.. Reason: More Info |

Re: Thinking about going into the engine
This is just a suggestion because ive encounted a similar problem on many g2's and g9's.. It might not be the same thing, but its just a suggestion.
Have you ever checked out the clutch? And by clutch i mean the weights inside. Last year specificly i had 2 g2 and 1 g9 come in with rattling issues, and discovered that the internal weights were worn out, and causing some bad vibrations, one was totaly broken off and just held in by the clutch cover. The piviot pins themselves were badly warn out.. Once new weights and pins were installed, as well as a new slider bushing sleve, it was all fine and dandy Check yours out and see if thats the culprit? One indication of badly warn out weights is that the cluch cover will start to show fatigue cracks and holes around the outside from where the weights have beem over extending and hitting it. |

Re: Thinking about going into the engine
Thanks for the tip. I have already been there. I replaced one counter weight and several pins. I still have this rattle even when running the engine without the clutch assembly attatched.
