Aftermarket clutches?
Hey I need some advice on primary and secondary clutches. I'm doing a diesel swap on my 2004 g22. I'm putting a kubota d600 engine in and trying to figure out which clutch would be best friend primary. From what I read the diesels idle at 1000rpms. So I need to come up with a primary clutch idea.
Secondly would the stock rear end be fine with the stock secondary clutch? Any suggestions would be helpful. I posted under the diesel swaps but haven't had any help. |

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
The stock rear end and secondary will be fine. A lot of us use the stock rear components with Vanguard swaps with little, if any problems. Just make sure all the parts are in good condition.

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
Do you think the stock spring is fine in the rear clutch or should that be upgraded? If I remember correctly that just helps with adding more torque right? I don't think I'd need that with the torque of a diesel lol

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
I'm using a stock spring, and it's fine. I bought a new one because after 10 years or so, the original spring had compressed about 1/2".
Umax spring on top, new standard spring, and the 10yr old one... |

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
You better be thinking about some tall gearing, cause your car will be very slow with a diesel!!

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
Haven't a clue, but you'd be better off to find out what the RPM ranges of your diesel motor are before you go forward. You may be building a very noisy 9 MPH car!!

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
The other think to note is the diameter of your tire. With say a 24" tire with stock gearing and 3500 rpms you would be in the area of 25 mph.

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
My tires are going to be 23". I know the motor is a 18hp motor so I'm guessing it'll go a little faster than 9mph lol. But I get what you mean

Re: Aftermarket clutches?
Yeah, rpm limitations are the problem, not HP. Not many conventional diesel small engines are gonna be besting 3500RPM for typical operating speeds.
