G9 Airbox K&N mod
Here's the way I kept my stock airbox but upgraded the filter. Where we ride dirt, mud and moisture are big problems so I thought I would at least try this. K&N R-1080 and an old Rain Bird lawn sprinkler body. Threads screw right in to the filter. I don't think the brand matters as long as it is 1 1/2" body and has the deeper threads. Cut body at 1 5/8" from top, you may need to de-burr internal runners, install with a little blue RTV and done! Haven't used yet since my engine is still apart but don't see why this shouldn't work well...........

Re: G9 Airbox K&N mod
There is a small amount of clearance between the bottom of the filter and the "top" of the bottom of the air box, so I think a foam "doughnut" wedge between the two will help stabilize the unit......

Nice job man, I hope it works well. Have you done anything with the main carb jet?

Re: G9 Airbox K&N mod
I've got two ready, a 156 installed and another one size up. It's been so long I can't remember the index size, need to go look at my drill bits. I'm thinking a G-16 carb would be perfect since it's designed for a slightly larger engine, but just can't see plunking down $125.00+ when what i have may be be fine.

Re: G9 Airbox K&N mod
I Used a r-1050 fits right inside the box
Little moding for a g-14 but still does a nice job keep the air box Otherwise the intake noise is loud especially if you are in a campground |

Re: G9 Airbox K&N mod
I think you may still get the "venturii" or turbo intake ecffect by the delete of the stock paper filter, with the protection of the stock airbox design. Worst case go directly and pre-filter it anyway..
