New G14 Owner...looking to improve
Hi guys, new to golf carts so i thought i would join looking for some help
I bought a all stock yamaha g14 gas golf cart yesterday Cart is in good shape for the year, runs fantastic. Old spark plug is burning just right (light tan color) Im going to do a oil change with rotella 10w30 and a new plug. Air filter still looks brand new. I will use 90 octane ethanol free gas (works wonders in my other small engines) Im wondering what can i do to add some more power and speed, without compromising the reliability of being stock My plans for the cart are: utility box tow package (for a small utility wagon) lift rims/tires Im going to order a performance clutch to help out with low end, but what else can i do? Being stock its pretty slow and there isnt much for rpms I hear people say adjusting the govenor? sounds like that will affect the reliability???I dont want blow the motor or have it go thru rings and start buring oil.... any help would be great! |

If you want to maintain the stock platform, give Plowmans a call. You get a big bang for your buck...

And Welcome... Thanks for the info I ordered a power clutch kit from jakes carts. Im hoping that will help with the low end torque...but probably wont do much for rpms I may have to research how to increase the governor speed, and adjust it up to get a little more rpm. |

Re: New G14 Owner...looking to improve
There's a 10mm nut on the governor arm. The further it's cranked in, the faster the cart will go. You won't blow the engine up unless you try to.
The Jakes kit will increase the torque, but has been known to rob the top speed. The spring is very stiff--a one size is good for all situations sort of thing... |

I will adjust it and drive...if i can get a little more mph plus the lower end boost i should be just fine.... I think right now my cart goes 10-12 mph tops....all stock on flat ground. I think if i could get 18-20 mph i would be happy Then i dont have to worry about blowing up the motor either...it shouldnt over rev!! thanks for responding....i will work on it tonight when i get home from work!!! |

Re: New G14 Owner...looking to improve
Just a update for your guys:
when i got home from work, i went out to my barn, turned up the heat, radio on, cold beer, and started working on the cart. Per the info i found here on the forum (thank you guys for that) i found out to turn in the 10mm nut to adjust the speed of the cart I turned it in about 3/4 of the way, leaving about 1/4 of the "rod" for further adjustment I took it for a spin and it worked perfect!! cart is quite a bit faster than before (id say double) No backfiring, no over revving the motor. The rpms stay pretty much the same, but the cart goes pretty good now (as fast as i need it to at this point) I pulled it back into the barn....pulled the rear tires and bumper off getting it ready for my performance clutch and tow package. I know i might loose some mph with the new clutch, but i dont think i will mind. I will gain low end power, and my cart will still be faster than before without the rpm's getting too high Thanks again guys for the info!! |

You will also need a puller to remove the clutch...

Re: New G14 Owner...looking to improve
I had mine zip tied and used a tach to monitor rpms. It would hit around 4500 rpms on flat ground and that took some distance.

with my turned in 3/4 of the way, i dont think the rpms went up by more than a couple hundred if that.....its awesome. The cart goes pretty good....motor is being stressed out..... once i get that clutch i want to see how much top end i loose, and can always add a few more turns too..... |
