Default Help new carb on.....

G1. Cart wouldn't stay running so I bought el cheapo carb just to diag this thing and it did eventually start and stayed on then oil/gas started coming out where the muffler connects to the block. Took the plug wire off and it's all wet in there. Took the plug off and it's soaked. Sooo it's getting too much fuel or the plug is bad. What is a good starting point for the adjustment screws? What else is going on here?

So I did some reading on another thread here and it turns out that these cheapo carbs can cause that but at least I know that the problem is very likely the carb so I can have the original one rebuilt. $19 diagnostic fee. I can live with that.

Some of the carbs are different. Make sure your crank seals are good they can cause all kinds of problems with starting and power.

I replaced those already. It would start and run very slow but when I give it gas it dies. I let off and it will go again then die when I give it more gas.

Try bending the float down on the new carb just sounds like it's set to high and dumping straight fuel in... One way to test it is blow in the inlet of the carb and lift the float up should close off with the float level or slightly below level

I'll do that this weekend. I'll take it apart and inspect I all. I'm also going to soak the old one in carb cleaner for a day or so and check for compression. I REALLY hope compression is ok. I'm sure it is because it will run and get up to top speed for 10-20 seconds then die. Over and over.

Another thing to do is carry a plug wrench with you drive it and as soon as it dies pull the plug see if it has spark

Yeah I could do that. It literally starts right back up if I left off the gas then tap it a few times then it goes for about 10 seconds while I throttle it then dies again. I can keep it going by just pumping the pedal over and over so that it kinda sputters around then it'll stay on till I wot it. It's just strange. I should make a video.

I am going threw same thing on mine. Another member gave me a good idea to check the fuel tank to see if something inside that might be plugging the opening to gas line. electrical tape ect. hope this helps

All you need to do is take the fuel line off the carb, put into a bottle/etc. Turn the starter over and you should see fuel spurt out every revolution (or every other). The engine takes a trickle, a very small one, to run. You should see plenty of fuel come out on the starter if things are working right. If you have fuel then I would get a new plug to make sure its not fouled, though if it runs at idle and keeps running it should be ok. New carb may have wrong jetting, if its lean it will run with throttle if you choke it and if its rich it will miss a lot and smoke a lot.
