Adjusting Carburetor on a Yamaha G1
Trying to find out how to adjust a carb on a G1???
You must jack up the rear to get wheels up. how can you get it to idle by itself so you can tune?? Or do you not need to tune ??? I'm confused? Can anyone help me? Admin please move to Yamaha. I cant figure out how to delete. Last edited by ratrodin; 01-20-2017 at 05:25 PM.. Reason: trying to delete in wrong spot. |

Re: Adjusting Carburetor on a Yamaha G1
Only 3 adjustments on Yamaha carbs, 1- air mixture screw...unscrew it, it should have a very smooth point, with the spring installed, turn in till "lightly" seated then 1 1/2 turns out. 2- throttle stop screw...back off till throttle shaft is completely closed, then turn in 1/4 turn. 3-needle/float adjustment....with carb in hand, as it would be mounted in the car, blow into the fuel inlet and raise the float so it is level with the base of the carb. You should not be able to blow threw it when the float is at that level. Where are you in Wa state?, I'm in Tacoma area.

Re: Adjusting Carburetor on a Yamaha G1
The G1 is supposed to be set to idle, if you hold the brakes on and just touch the pedal enough to start it should idle. You need a little slack in the throttle cable so it idles after the pedal switch is on. How much your belt drags can affect it. It may not idle well until warm.
Far as fuel smallblock is correct only the idle mix. If everything like crank seals and airbox seals are good it should run well with stock jetting. You have to be careful about jetting with a 2 stroke, but you should not have to change it unless its not the right carb or you changed the airbox or exhaust. |

G1 will idle.....Its been so long, Ive forgotten what the wire color is to disconnect back by the solenoids. But one of those will cause the cart to not turn off when the accelerator pedal is at rest.

Re: Adjusting Carburetor on a Yamaha G1
Well yes, idle long as you have your foot in the pedal. I usually just touched the pedal and it would not move anywhere, then set the idle speed and mix. Or put a block in front of the wheels. You can jack it up but it may act different that way than it does with the belt dragging. Its not a big deal really but if the idle is set right its a slow idle and it makes the cart start better. You also set it faster than the starter, it will keep someone from driving around on the starter and killing the battery.

Yes I am in Carnation. Thank you. How do you keep it running? shuts off when you let off the gas. I seen the other reply after I posted this. But if anyone knows what wire to disconnect to disable that I would love to know.

Unplug the black wire with white stripe on passenger side rear fender. Then adjust idle screw. Cart will start with pedal but you will have to turn key off to shut car off.
I have not tried this myself but was told by a great guy from this site. Yamaha recommended this method. Hope this helps. |

Re: Adjusting Carburetor on a Yamaha G1
I just hold the pedal on a little, iirc with a G1 you could pop the throttle linkage off the carb? Then hold the pedal down and set it. If the wire thing works that would be easier.
