G16 won't move
I spent the last year building up an electric cart and I'm finally happy with it. But I just picked up a g16 and can't get it moving. The engine turns over but it won't move. I checked the battery voltage and its 12.11v after sitting on a charger. Could this be the culprit? Spark plug is new, fuel is new as is fuel filter.

Re: G16 won't move
Is it at 12.11 when you press the gas pedal or when just sitting there? It's not the battery unless the voltage starts dropping quickly from 12v when you push the pedal. Also this has happened to me a couple times..make sure you check the accelerator cable under the floor access panel. Sometimes if it's badly frayed/stretched it will only run the starter not allowing you to open the carb up.
Now you said it turns over but won't move? If you mean the car is firing and running and the clutch is engaging and all that, but the car doesn't go anywhere, you may have a stripped out drum |

Re: G16 won't move
Big difference between turning over and actually firing is the motor running or is the starter just turning over?

Re: G16 won't move
I'm new to the gas golf cart world so excuse my crude descriptions. Good stuff so far but let me clarify. When i step on the gas, the belts turn but not fast enough to engage the clutch fully so the belt doesn't "rise" up and tighten to drive the machine. Almost as if if starves for gas

Re: G16 won't move
As for battery voltage, 12.11 is when it sits. When I step on the gas it drops to 10 or so volts.

Re: G16 won't move
I suspect, as others have stated, you are just turning over on the starter and not actually "running". Yamahaguy97 is right that a common issue with those is the accelerator cable from the pedal to the governor. I've got one in my shop for that right now. Check to see if the cables are actually pulling the carb butterfly open when you push the gas pedal. The starter can turn the engine over, but if the carb never opens it won't get the fuel and air to run.

Re: G16 won't move
12.1v dropping to 10v = dead battery.

Re: G16 won't move
So based on all the advice, I replaced the battery and cleaned the carb and sure enough she runs although rough. I have to have the choke half way out to get it going. Not sure if that is a product of bad fuel/air mix or because I added seafoam to the tank to clean it out.
Also, it had a cheap block lift installed on it and the tire camber looks like this / \ and drives sloppy. any ideas? |

Re: G16 won't move
Did you completely disassemble the carb before cleaning?
