Default Headlight and tail light surging when cart is running

Is the alternator going ? Or maybe a bad ground ?

Might try jacking up the back of the car or putting it neutral, with your volt meter on the battery. As you rev it up the voltage should climb to 14.5 to 15.5 volts. That will test you charging system. Then turn on the lights and do the same test. Did you run the positive and negative directly to the battery?

It runs fine , just went out to garage and fired her up for first time in a while and when I turned the lights on noticed they were pulsing when I rev up the motor , but when I just idle it doesn't do it but lights are a bit dimmer when at low rpm..

I don't have a tester.

I'm no expert on Yamahas, or anything for that matter, but it may be normal. Check your battery.

The pulsating lights sounds like you may have a bad connection between the charging circuit and the battery and the lights are on the same side of this connection. If the battery is good and all connections are good then the slights should shine fairly stable.

You should consider getting one. They are pretty cheap. Walmart has them.

Smallblock is right, it sounds like your voltage regulator might be on the blink and allowing too much current when the engine revs up. Depending on the type, it may be a simple adjustment or the regulator needs replaced. You need a voltage meter to test it though.

I think the key point here is ,just went out to garage and fired her up for first time in a while . My guess is the battery is down on volts from sitting and is seeing the big fluctuation when the rpm changes from the alt . The battery acts as a buffer when fully charged so it will not be as noticeable . Charge the battery fully and see what happens .
