G2 charging issue
Hello and thanks in advance. I have a stock g2 that I use just to work around the yard. It does not charge the battery, and I constantly have to charge it with and external charger. I'm pretty sure it's just a wire that is loose bc I have had several wires snatched loose while working with it. Can anyone tell me what wires are necessary to charge the battery?
I have disconnected several wires for various reasons over the years, and I do remember at one time I unplugged an entire harness bc the wires were getting so hot it was melting the coating. This could possibly have been the wire(s) required to charge. Thanks for any help! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: G2 charging issue
Dig up the service manual on this site, it has a wiring diagram.

Re: G2 charging issue
Ok I found what I believe to be a wiring diagram but to be honest I'm not sure I know what I'm looking at. The wire that charges the battery I assume comes from the starter/generator? Is this correct?
There appears to be a wire going from started/ generator to a voltage regulator. What exactly does the voltage regulator do? Is it what tells the generator when to charge and when not to? Is it possible to bypass it? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: G2 charging issue
No your starter generator puts out a voltage porportional to rpm your voltage regulator "regulates" the voltage that goes back into the battery if you by bypass it will will cook your battery...If you have had to unhook various connections because wires were over heating you have a bigger issue than just your battery not charging

It appears as if you are in, "follow every wire from starting point to end point" mode. I have been in that mode with every cart restoration I have done. Those wiring diagrams should be pretty straight forward. Make a copy and take it with you to your cart. It will all come together for you pretty quickly. Locate a component on your cart (starter/gen, key switch, battery, whatever), match it up to the wiring diagram, make sure all the wires from each component are going to where they are supposed to go. Note that those diagrams are not to scale so components might be closer together or farther away than they look on paper. Inspect each wire as you go. It sounds painful but it really isn't that bad. Batteries not charging is normally a voltage regulator or a S/G issue (brushes) but, like Spicy said, if your stuff is getting warm and needs disconnected then you need to do some inspecting. |

Re: G2 charging issue
Ok. I've followed wires from starter to a pink/purple connector that I disconnected at some point... I am guessing it goes to the voltage regulator but I can't for the life of me find the location of the voltage regulator. Can you lead me in the direction of where it might be mounted?

Re: G2 charging issue
If I'm not mistaken the carts pink/purple wire is a for your backup buzzer..

Re: G2 charging issue
Voltage regulator should be attached to drivers side rear inner fender liner, pretty near the top of the arch.

Re: G2 charging issue
You have small wires come out the side of the starter/gen, they go to the VR on the fender in back driver side. The Vr sends power to the gen windings with these wires to make it charge when voltage is low. The charge goes out into the battery cables. The VR also needs a ground and hot so it knows the voltage of the battery, so it knows to charge or not. It should be making 13.5v at faster than idle rpm, roughly, the gen does not put out much at idle as all generators are like compared to alternators. The reverse buzzer is wired to the shifter, it is also on the rear wheel well next to the VR, iirc there is a fuse block there also.

Re: G2 charging issue
I would be getting a new or complete wiring harness.
