G8-A can't get it to slow down 16mph. No Hill climbing power
Recently had what I think it's a 1991 G8 given to me. The cart runs awesome (little smoke when cold).
I got the life of me can't get it to run at a comfortable place. 16mph is as slow as I can get it to go. I've messed with the governor adjustment, turned counter clockwise till the are only 1/4" of threads showing. I had to take the governor cable out of the bracket near the carb. If it's on the bracket slowest it will run is 20mph. I'm at a loss. Also it barely climbs steep inclines and when and if it does she growls pretty bad. |

Re: G8-A can't get it to slow down 16mph. No Hill climbing power
Your throttle is all messed up. What you have is a cable from the carb to the governor arm. They work together. The arm has a spring in it and the nut tightens the pressure of that spring. The pedal cable is hooked to that spring, so when you gas on it the pedal switch under the pedal turns on the engine and starter so it runs, you push more it pulls the governor arm back and opens the carb, you go faster, assuming the CVT system is working right. When you go fast enough the governor says too fast and it pulls the arm back, eventually it pulls hard enough to bend the spring and close the carb and you can't go faster. They do this so the cart is governed by ground speed not engine speed. The CVT controls engine rpm. So at rest the carb should be closed, and pedal down it should open. It should move freely and pretty quickly with the pedal action. Whatever is keeping it open is your problem. The pedal cable usually adjusts under the floor you pull the panel out. Pedal cable may have broke and someone rigged it up to run all the time.

Some carts you pull the piece at the pedals, others you pull the whole thing. Carts that it comes out the mat is just laying there and goes under edges to hold it, once you get it lifted it comes out easy. If it is attached then it may not come out, I've never worked on a G8 but most yamaha it comes out to get at the throttle cable and brake cables to adjust, or work on the pedal switch or pedal pivots and springs.
