Drive belt still slips
Was out riding with the wife in the field went up a 30 degree hill and the drive belt will slip. Measured the belt and it is 1 1/8 wide.Could the drive clutch not be closing up enough,or hanging up? If I should take the cover off the drive clutch are the threads right or left handed?
On a side note the two of us weight over 4 hundred pounds together. |

Re: Drive belt still slips
I would start by checking for slop in the bushing of the rear clutch. With the belt removed, it can be checked in place. Twist the inner sliding sheave (so the ramps are not touching the sliders). Then press the inner sliding sheave outer edge with your thumb. It should not tilt toward the transmission.

Re: Drive belt still slips
Did you ever replace that belt? Reason I ask is that many belts across all cart manufactures are very very similar. A difference of even 1/2 inch in length will cause slippage. It's simple to get the wrong one, particularly if you get one from Bubba's Cart Shop or something where Bubba gives you a belt that he pulled from a dusty belt box that had 100 other belts in it. Worse, a lot of people will go ahead and throw any old belt on a cart because it's "close enough". A lot of folks think they have the right one but they don't.
Personally, if I am having belt problems first thing I do is get a new one from a trusted online source so that I can be pretty certain that I have the right one. |

Re: Drive belt still slips
OK Thanks I will check for play in the clutch. Who can I trust on getting the right belt. Looked on Amazon there are several choices. Maybe need to talk to the ones at Plowmans. Seems everyone likes them. No dealers around here. Can I get the part number for the belt and go to an auto parts store?

Re: Drive belt still slips
Yeah, don't go with Amazon with that belt. That's half the problem. There are sellers on there that will ship you same belt for a Yamaha that they will for a an EZ Go that they will for a Columbia. They don't care. Get one from one of the site sponsors listed in the link above. That way you are pretty much guaranteed to get the right fit.
Auto parts stores will have acceptable starter belts but not the drive belts. |

Re: Drive belt still slips
Ordered a drive belt from Plowmans. They are sending it out today priority mail. I asked if there was more than one grade of belt. Diane said, not for a G1. Will check the play in the clutch when I change the belt.

Put the new belt on,and took it for a ride
Seemed to work ok. I was by myself and went up a few hills in the pasture. It didn't slip any, it felt as I was almost spinning the tires a couple times Here are a few pictures of the engine bay before and after. |

Re: Drive belt still slips
Was gonna say the same. That's not normal, and would cause serious performance loss if that's what's normally going on.
