Default Yamaha gas - what is it?

Well, my BIL decided to blow me off when I asked him to get the model/serial number from my "new to me" cart that is stored some 230 miles away. I'm wanting to get some mod parts for it before I go move it to my campsite in a couple of weeks. In particular, a light kit first and foremost. Can anybody give me a reliable guess as to what model this baby is? I was told it is either a 1996 or 1998. Also, any idea what that round black knob thingy is next to the shifter and choke?

I'm fairly new to the golf cart scene, but I'm going to guess it might be some sort of air induction to the air box?? Guessing of course

Could also be a yamaha g14. The black round piece is the air intake for the carb. A pic of the engine would ice it either way.

The good news is that you can order the lights without worrying about it. G14/16/20/21/22 all take the same lights. '96 to '96 both G14 & G16 were in production & while there were some other differences (primarily engine) the body is pretty much interchangeable.

That extra thingy is the air intake. That air intake was only on '95-96 G14a. 95% of parts interchange between G14-G16-G19-G22. G14A has different engine than the rest, so only order engine stuff for G14A. G22 had different front suspension, so that lift kit stuff won't fit yours. G22 had different roof & supports, so it's iffy when a G14 owner orders a rear seat kit for G22. Lights & most all accessories will work between all models.

Cgtech to the rescue. I thought the G 14 was the only one with that intake. It gets more muddled. The 95 used steering and rear ends from the earlier G models , where the 96 has the rear end and steering components from the later G16 unit. P.S. I learned the hard way with some tie rod ends.

Thanks! Wish I had a pic of the engine. Don't think my telephoto lens will reach that 230 miles, though.
