Default G1 doesn't stop when pedal is released

I've just replaced the stop switch which was expensive and apparently unneccessary.
The symptom persists. I have to turn off the main switch to kill the engine. This is a nuisance as I have a large brown dog that gets in the way. I live in the mountains and could use the engine as brake.

Another thread said replacing the voltage regulator solved his problem. He did not elaborate as to how he determined it was the regulator or how it was causing the problem.
I feel burned by my surmise that it was the stop switch. I might have used a meter to test it.

And BTW replacing the stop switch is a nuisance as well.

Anyway, can any one tell me how to determine whether the regulator is the problem.
Can I simply brighten its contacts.
Thanks,Cherrylogger

Unhook the regulator wires, if all acts normal after that (minus charging).... Well , you know, you read the other one...

Get a wiring diagram and check the wiring from the key switch to the solenoids. It's possible to wire these carts to turn on with the key switch pretty much bypassing the start switch altogether.

I am assuming your issue is in both directions, right? If only one direction you may have a solenoid stuck closed.

Yes, those stop switches can be tricky. I found is easiest to bend the plate below the switch downward and getting it from underneath. I then bend the plate back in place when done.
