Default G2 engine in a G9 charging issues

what I got is a G2 engine in a G9 cart with the G9 wiring harness, when I hit the pedal the cart starts when I let off it still cranks, so I replaced the voltage regulator which fixed that issue, but when I plug the small brown wire into the red wire coming from the solenoid the 10amp fuse blows if I leave it unplugged everything works but at full throttle the starter/gen is sending 17.9 volts back to the battery, now if I put the volt meter on the small brown wire that I left unplugged while running full throttle is only putting out 15.9 volts.. here is a pic of the wire not connected

What does the brown wire go to?

The gen will do 17v if your battery is low.

The G2 and G9 ignitors are different the wiring is little different.

The VR reads the voltage of the battery to determine if it needs to turn on the field in gen and make it charge, or not. Those are the small wires in side of gen to the VR, the field. But VR needs a proper ground and hot to see what the battery is doing. It may get hot off the start solenoid cable (not the battery side) so it only does stuff when its running, I'd have to study the wiring diagram again to recall but that is typical.

I would probably start by finding the ground wire for the VR and checking that its is grounding, and checking the brown wire that it is not shorting to something if you are sure its correct wire to hook up and all that.
