using Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40
wondering if any of you guys are using rotella t6 5w40 motor oil in your 4 stroke golf cart?
Ive been using it since late winter in my yamaha g14. I chose this oil for a few reasons... 1. Rotella is a great heavy duty oil, holds up to extreme temps 2. Ive used it in my truck, mowers etc with great results 3. find it local at my walmart for 6ish dollars per quart 4. (biggest reason) 5w40. 5 gives me good flow when the oil is cold. Here in michigan it can get very cold. The 40 weight holds up great in the summer heat. This year we have had many days of 90 plus degrees I keep reading most people run mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30.....but i think rotella full synthetic 5w40 offers a broader coverage, from way cold, to extreme heat. It was designed to work in diesel engines, but ive had great luck with it in all my gas engines So far the g14 loves it. No engine noise, seem to be noticeable quieter running....its very smooth. Higher levels of detergent keep the engine cleaner inside. Not to mention this oil holds up for a long time (10k miles in a truck) so oil change in the golf cart can be 3-4 months or so. Ive had it in my cart since January of this year, ran it until late march/early april and it was fairly diry (i think it was the detergents cleaning) I changed it, and this oil is still in great shape, not dirty at all, and i drive my cart just about every day in field, trails, pulling a wagon etc. Just curious if anybody else runs this. All the benefits of a full synthetic, better weight range for hot and cold temps....and its designed for diesels, but is fantastic in gas engines to keep them clean and protected |

Re: using Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40
I arbitrarily looked up a 2012 G14 and it is rated for 10W30 weight motor oil (no optional motor oils were mentioned in the G14 manual).
The T6 is a great synthetic oil, primarily a HD diesel oil (I use it in my diesel truck and tractor too) but it is also rated for gasoline engines that require that viscosity. You need to be cautious of using a higher viscosity oil than specified by the engine design ... there could be some cooling and lubrication issue by doing that. Here is an interesting Amsoil article on this subject: https://www.amsoil.com/newsstand/die...my-gas-engine/ |

Re: using Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40
I did go to walmart last night to pick up a few things for the up coming holiday
I picked up a few quarts of mobil 1 synthetic high mileage 5w30 I changed the oil in my truck with it, and in the golf cart and my mower All 3 run very smooth with mobil 1. I may have converted to the mobil 1 following!! |

Re: using Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40
I have always ran Castrol Syntec 10w30 in my G2. It works great. I usually ride my cart from March until the end of October, and I change it at the beginning and about at the middle of the season.
