I have a 89 G2 and installed a 13" LED flood light. It worked fnr for a few minutes and then half of the lights stopped working so I sent it back the sent me a new one, I installed it and when I revved up the motor the same thing happened, it burned out half of the lights.

I wired and hooked up the light directly to the battery with a pull switch. Is it a voltage regulator problem, surge problem, that may cause the problem? I installed a inline fuse with a 5 amp fuse ... If so what can I do to fix the problem and do you have a suggestion for voltage regulators or surge control problems?

I would suspect first your voltage.

On my G15-A while on way, my radio was sometimes resetting (stopping perhaps one second then restarting having lost its memory). I checked the voltage and it was going up to 17v. The radio having a surge protection, it was acting as an alert in fact...

This being said, there are flood lights from China that could be "sensible" and blow early (15 or 16V).

As an advantage, you can adjust your voltage if you still have the original regulator on your G2.

(Please note that the value you read can be quite different when the cover of the regulator is removed or back, so it is a game of several tries)

Im ignorant here, where is the voltage regulator? Can I install an inline regulator for the lights?

Do not know what you mean but by the way, first is to define if you have a surge, not only for the LEDs.

The picture of my previous message is the procedure from the maintenance manual.

The lights did flicker when I accelerated, I would assume surging, will a new voltage regulator solve the problem. ANd How can I test it? As I said, Im ignorant here. I located the regulator and a new one is about $30.

Perhaps you should try to find a friend having an universal controller (and help you) to measure the voltage as indicated on my first post, just propose him a couple of beers from your fridge

Your voltage regulator is an adjustable one, so perhaps no need to change but just to adjust.

A voltage regulator has to allow upwards of 14 - 15 volts into a cart's circuit to keep the battery charged. That extra voltage over 12v is whacking your lights. You dont want a resistor because when you cart is putting out low current at low speeds you'll be resisting that as well as high current at high speeds.

You want a current limiter that will allow higher voltage into it but only allow. Google 12v current limiter and you'll see what I mean.

1. I tested at the battery and it tested at 17+ volts so I guess that is why it fried the LED.

2. The battery tested at 13 V, so I figure a margin of error.

3. I figured out how to adjust the regulator and got it down to 13.5 - 14 v at full throttle. DO I need to step it up a bit and Is there a need for the current limiter now that I have it adjusted?

4. Then I tested at the regulator and it showed 8 V at full power. Why is it testing different at the battery and at the voltage regulator?

I really do appreciate your help. Thanks. This thing is making me dizzy LOL.
