G2/G9 golf cart whirring noise
Hey guys. First time poster long time reader. I have a yamaha g9 that is making a whining noise. I have changed the belt, one clutch weight, the oil and greased the clutch.
I am not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Could be dry starter/generator bearings

Re: G2/G9 golf cart whirring noise
I was wondering if it was The starter. Is there a way to test it?

Re: G2/G9 golf cart whirring noise
That does sound starter related. I would take it off and pop all of the rubber boots off and inspect the brushes / brush holder springs to make sure nothing is out of place.
Turn the starter by hand, fast if you have to, and see if something seems amiss. Make sure there is no slop when turning it with "slop" meaning any side to side motion of the starter pulley. Round and round only or you have a bad bearing in there. When turning it, you really should only really feel slight "bumps" of the brushes passing over grooves on the armature. It's pretty easy to pop the top off of your starter as well. You can take it off, blow it out with compressed air and look in there with a flashlight to see if anything is out of place. |

Wasn't the starter boys any other ideas?

Pull the belt of and run the motor isolate it to motor or differential

Re: G2/G9 golf cart whirring noise
I think it's motor related. I had the clutch belt off when the starter was on and it still made the noise

Probably crank bearings. I have one like that. I just deal with the noise. When the bearings fail is when I'll worry about it.
