Default Starter generator acting up g9

Well I thought I had fixed my charging problem but not charging again. Have 5.5 ohms on the red/green wires coming out of the s/g. If I unhook the vr should I see a higher voltage coming out of the s/g?

The small wires are the field, when current goes through them it causes it to generate power otherwise it does not. The VR iirc grounds the one wire to charge and other one is hot (I think, it might be the other wire is ground and VR makes one hot) anyway it hots that circuit to charge when it sees the voltage is too low. Also make sure the power and ground to the VR are good or it does not know what to do if it can't 'see' what voltage on battery is. You should see no voltage charge with VR I'm pretty sure. It should be same or slightly less than what it is not running, at battery. Note the gen will not charge much at low rpm and will draw current at idle while it is spinning the engine (at slow idle or engine just turning over), only charges at 1500 and more rpm or something like that.

sho thanks for thr input. I went back and double checked things and tried running the cart with the VR disconnected. Still no charge.. Rechecked my connections and hmm no continuity on red and green. Went back to the connections on the s/g and guess what, the green wire wasn't snapped in.. I guess when I worked on it the first time I didn't get it completely seated in the connector. Is now and charging like it should

Thanks again.

Great, you got it fixed! Go burn some gas!

I meant you should see no charge without the VR connected.
