Default G2 weight limit question??

Hi All....I have a late 80's G2 that struggles going up hills. Things I've done to it so far include: new plug, new spring and ramps in secondary clutch and new primary clutch. Seems after all this it goes up hills even slower. I had about 500 pounds (myself, a passenger and 2 sets of clubs). Would that amount of weight cause the cart to go real slow up hills? The governor has also been bypassed so the throttle cable goes directly to the carb.....wondering if the throttle cable may need to be adjusted??

thanks for any help/advice

That is a wide open question. Several things would help the experts (not me lol) narrow it down.
1- how slow is slow
2- does engine rev higher but cart still moves slow
3- have you done a compression check

Sounds like you have done the tune-up with new plug and filters. Definitely make sure throttle cable operating correctly.
good luck

My G2 climbs hills fine with just me on the cart. Add a passenger and my two dogs and it slows down quite a bit, but doesn't have any problems climbing the hill. It is all a matter of when you are loading up an 8.5 HP engine with 500 plus pounds and going up an incline to boot it is going to slow down a bit.

What's the condition of the belt? should be 1 3/16" wide, and like BrutalSoldier said how slow is slow? make sure your tensioner is snug, another thing is the G2 has a rev limiter..

Could also be the air box is not sealed correctly.

Thanks for all the responses. When climbing a hill the cart will almost come to stop and just barely creep. I have the pedal all the way to the floor but the motor doesn't rev up more then one would expect going up a hill. The belt is in good shape and is indeed 1 3/16 and the air box is sealing properly. The previous owner did bypass the governor as well.

hope this helps

I see a compression check in your future. I have a G2 waiting on a rebuild. I will be curious to see where this goes. Good Luck

The engine should run higher rpm any time you floor it, if it is doing that the clutches are working right. It will slow but should pull up near any hill if on grass to the point it spins the tires usually. You can do mods to help it often used in lifted carts, like a cut secondary sheave, umax spring, the kevlar CPP belt. All of them will help but you still have the same engine they will not fly up hills with lots of weight on them. It is very important the CVT is working right if it does not get the right rpm you will not get full power. As said make sure the tension cable is good and set so it is not very loose. Is possible your ignitor is going bad the timing can be off, but that usually shows other symptoms as well and does it more when hot, has more power cold.
