Default Drive belt or drive clutch?

Hello,
My Yamaha G2 will turnover and the starter belt spins like it should. The drive belt sometimes catches but not for long. The cart doesn’t move but every once in a while it come to a crawl and then stop. The belt seems to be in okay condition so I’m thinking it is the clutch but I’m not sure. If it is the clutch can it be repaired or does it need to be replaced? Is there a way I could determine for sure whether it’s the belt or the clutch?

Thank you in advance

Sounds like the cart isn't even running?

It runs and the starter belt turns but the drive belt isn’t catching the clutch

I think Spicyunicorn might be on to something here. Are you sure the engine is actually running, and not just cranking?

I am not sure, could that mean it’s the starter generator?

No a lot of first timers on here say motor is idling or running and belt doesn't catch when actually the starter generator is just turning the motor over and not actually running and on these g2 the starter can make the cart creep when turning over. start with turning it over for a little bit then pull the spark plug and inspect it if it's wet you have an ignition problem if it's dry it's fuel issue and we can point you in the right direction from there

Thank you, I will try that. If it helps, I replaced the spark plug a couple months ago and had just replaced the carb.

can you start it in neutral & rev the motor up or is it just the starter turning it over at slow speed

When belt wears to 1" wide it is too small and should be replaced, replace sooner on lifted carts. 1 3/16 new width. (G2 and G9 are virtually the same cart)

My G9 stock clutch would drag the belt, if you pull it out by hand and it does not drag when starting it may need a shot of grease. Mine would drag every time it needed a shot. With grease it would come out itself. Don't put more than 2 pumps in at a time or it will puke on the belt.

If engine not running it will not rev at all.

Thank you everyone for your help. The spark plug is wet. I can rev the engine up when in neutral and the belts width is about 1 3/8”. The next thing I plan on looking at is the starter generator brushes or should I check something else before I do that?
