Default exhaust flapper valve

i have a 82 g-1 and i just re-built the top end of motor ,and noticed the exhaust valve was disconnected .so i am just going to take it out permanently.does anybody know what it is supposed to do .i would like to know before i cut it out.thanks....

to my knowledge of 2 stroke thats what helps creates power but not sure if its the same on a cart

The exhaust valve was desighned to stay partially closed at lower RPM's to help with torque. Go ahead and remove and "weld/plug" the hole. I've done it and works just fine. Nothing like over enginering. Later Dave

Of course all motors rely on some amount of back pressure to make power. Most modern two strokes use power valves which work with the same concept, low speeds it closes off the exhaust port for more back pressure and make more power. In turn at wide open the exhaust port is opened all the way to allow for efficient exhaust flow.
