Default G9 no turn over no spark

I'm working on a G9 that wouldn't fire or spin over. I have checked the wiring and found nothing wrong. In my checks I found that the starter solenoid had power on the ground side when I tried to start it. If I jump the solenoid it will spin over but has no spark at the spark plug. I added a ground wire from the battery to the solenoid and now it starts and runs fine. Has anyone had this issue before and what causes it? I thought I saw a post about a voltage regulator causing something similar. Thanks

Have you checked the fuse?

Sounds like you had a ground issue. When you "added a ground wire from the battery to the solenoid" did you disconnect what was there or just add the jumper wire to it? You may be grounding the ignition module/coil through the jumper you added to the solenoid.

No Ground fuse on G9s. Just added a ground a extra wire to the solenoid.

So adding that jumper gave you starter and ignition. Follow your ground path: Battery -, chassis ground, any and all engine ground straps & engine cradle to main frame.something there isn't making good connection on it's own.
