turbo edition will start in neutral but grinds and turns off when shifted in gear.

Bought a new cart today, had no other markings besides “Yamaha” and “turbo edition” I got it started in neutral but when shifting to forward it grinds, learches, and turns off. It only has forward reverse and neutral. No clutch.

I’ve tried starting it in gear and it moves slowly forward but won’t turn over.

Any ideas?

take the belt off the clutches and see if it still does the same thing. sounds to me like something is binding up and killing the motor.

if you take the belt off try to rotate the clutches by hand. the front one should spin "somewhat" freely, the only resistance you will feel is the compression of the motor. The rear one will drive the transmission.

Most likely i would be you've got an issue in the transmission, something is bound up hard from the sounds of it. but disconnecting the engine from the transmission will help narrow that down pretty quickly.

Some of that is normal. You should only shift with engine off or the gears will grind. They do creep on the starter. If it wont go its turning over but not running, That means the engine is not running but the starter is turning it over.
