Default Adding lights to the G1 questions.

Have been wanting to add lighting to my 84 G1. Id like to get street legal so head lights, park lights, brake lights and turn signals. Do you start with some sort of kit that has a turn signal switch, brake switch and fuse box? From some reading it looks like i may want to use some kinda of voltage stabilizer for the lighting system.

I think ive got an idea on what to use for a headlight but I'm kinda lost on what to use for taillights and turn signals. Hoping to not put holes in the body but if that's what it takes i will but thinking i may be able to mount them on the rear bumper. Pictures of your set up and how your wired it up would be very helpful.

Default Re: Adding lights to the G1 questions.

I did a utv and got a turn switch that went on the column, it had all the wiring set up other than the length you need to reach the lights. We used LED tail lights and it had head lights already. Got LED marker lights for front. Ended up had to get an electronic blinker for it as the normal ones will not work on LED unless you put a resistor on and I didn't want to. The battery and charging is not that great on it either so didn't want to waste power. Also put indicator lights in dash. We kind of picked lights that worked on it. There are lots of lights on amazon and ebay to start with. If you want legal you will have to get a brake/marker for the rear meaning it needs a brighter brake light in it. I would recommend you get anything LEd you can to conserve energy carts are only about 15A max at higher rpm. Plus you don't need huge headlights as carts are not as fast as cars. Some carts you can get light kits for, they include marker lights in the headlights and so on, maybe you can mod them for your cart. Odds are you wont find much for G1 they are old enough the aftermarket does not do a lot for them.

[SIZE="2"]Use your imagination. There are hundreds of lights available on e-bay and at auto parts stores. Also don't rule out auto salvage yards.
I used a turn signal switch that went on the column and had the wiring already in it. If you run the stock brakes you'll need a manually operated brake light switch. An old style motorcycle switch will work. Take your time and look around. The possibilities are endless.
