1984 G1 Electrical Troubleshooting
Howdy all.
So I have a 1984 G1 that I am bringing back to life and it won’t start/run when I depress the gas pedal. I have read through the various stickies and have done several checks with a voltmeter. 1. The cart will start up and run both forward & back when I jump power directly from the battery to the yellow ( forward) or blue (reverse) spade terminals on back of applicable solenoid. 2. I made a new power lead from battery to wiring harness and the positive fuse is good and checks good with voltmeter on both sides. 3. I installed a brand new stop switch at the gas pedal (it has the 4 wire version) This switch has constant power at the red/white wire. I am thinking that maybe the key switch is bad? Does anyone know what the voltage readings should be at the terminals on the back of the switch when it is switched to forward or reverse? In the OFF position I have power at the red/white solder connection...when switched forward there is no power to any other wire connections...when switched to reverse I am getting all kinds of goofy voltage readings on several of the terminals but the buzzer horn comes on okay if I have auxiliary wire on the negative battery terminal connected to ground. Hoping someone out there has had experience with a similar situation on your G1 and can steer me in the right direction?? |

Re: 1984 G1 Electrical Troubleshooting
I forgot to mention...when jumping power to the applicable spade terminal on each solenoid to get it running I have to have the key switch in the correct forward or reverse position or else it will just turn the motor over and won’t fire up. This makes me think maybe the key switch is maybe okay? I just don’t know...

Re: 1984 G1 Electrical Troubleshooting
remove and clean all cable ends from battery starter/gen and from there to solenoids. they are steel from the factory and corrode causing voltage drop.
make sure your battery tested and charged. here is a link to the manual http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/garag...ir-manual.html |

Re: 1984 G1 Electrical Troubleshooting
Many thanks for the link to the manual!!
So it ended up being two bad ground connections that I had to redo...the one coming out of the wiring harness near the bottom front of passenger side rear inner fender & also the one coming off the negative battery terminal. The ole girl is up & running now! |
