Yamaha G9 start problem.
Hello everyone I'm new to this group and to golf carts. I picked up a 90s model from what I can tell. I found a stamp under the seat that says JG5-100332. Not sure the year I'm guessing it's a G5 not sure. It was at a yardsale they said it just stopped running and wouldn't start back. So I took a shot an got it for $150. It had no key so I bought one put a fresh 12v battery in it. When you turn the key on it does nothing no clicks or anything. Pressing the pedal in neutral, forward or reverse. When in reverse you can hear the back up buzzer but when you press the gas the buzzer gets weak. I have looked at some of the wiring but everything seems it should at least try to turn over. If anyone has any idea what it could be please let me know I'm open to any ideas to get her running again. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Re: Yamaha g5 start problem.
You have a G9. I would replace the battery cable ends at the battery, they are known to be trouble.

Re: Yamaha g5 start problem.
Hello thank you I will try that someone has cut them off an I put some old battery terminals on it but just a quick fix to see what it was doing. How could you tell it was a G9.

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
A G5 would be totally different. It’s a G9 and not a G2 because of the rubber trim around the dash.

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
Hey guys update I tested voltage on the starter its getting between 5 and 9 volts. So I jumped a wire on the coil and the motor turns over. Where is the best place to get a replacement coil.

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
That is a constant duty solenoid, it stays on all the time its running so a car solenoid will not work. They are at least $50 last time I looked but they last forever. I got mine on amazon but most cart places should have them, or a yamaha cart dealer of course. But hey the cart is worth a lot more (and way more fun) if it runs.
Wiring issues are very common like posted, be aware of bad connections and bad battery cables and wires. Also these carts wire grounds for everything, so check those too. Only the engine is ground the frame is not, and don't use factory wiring for your lights and stuff it will blow fuses, or use relays. Crazy reliable cart otherwise, and G9 were only made about 91 to 95 or so, you can look up that serial on the net for the year. The older late 80s G2 is about the same cart with detail changes. |

Check the fuse on the driver side rear fender first. It's up where you hear the reverse button buzzing. That would be a great place to start.

Cory I don't know why the black wire is going to the valve cover but that should not be there either.
