Default Vanguard v-twin swap on a Yamaha G16

Trying to figure out how to install the starter generator on a vanguard vtwin. The vanguard does have a starter, I'd rather use the yamaha starter generator.

You will need to have a pulley on the clutch (stock clutch) or get the pulley that goes behind the clutch from vegas. Line it up with engine and mount the stock gen bracket ahead of the engine, unless you get crazy and can mount it behind or above it but often not room with a twin. You will likely have to make a top bracket to tighten it, I used an old lawn mower bracket or use an old chevy alternator bracket with a slot to tighten it. You will need to fit a belt to it, best to do that while you do the bracket. Use all the stock wiring but if you don't want pedal start you bypass that and the key will make it run or not. You may need to use a 5 pin relay to kill the engine it depends on what coils are on it how you hook them up. When you cut power to the gen it also cuts the engine. The gen will not charge if it is not activated all the time while running.

I never had any issue with the vanguard starter, 18 hp or 23 hp. (???)

Maybe he's looking to retain the "pedal start" feature?

I should have said its best to line up ALL the belts at once because its a mess to move something once you mount it up, unless your mount is very adjustable. If you move the engine you are changing the drive and gen belt, I have run into that problem but i welded the gen mount on so I can't change it. Or can't without some work lol. I had to do some work when I moved the engine for a different drive belt size, because the engine was hitting the trans so I had to in order to adjust it more.

I love the pedal start on this cart because I use it for everything not just trail riding, its much faster and easier to use. Not a big deal on the trail, but really nice around the house and utility stuff. Plus my clone does not charge, and the gen does. Not a problem with most twins but an issue with most clones.

Thanks for the info, I ended up buying the Vegas Carts 625cc. Max speed is 41mph and so far key start I'm still trying to figure out a bracket for an alternator for my accessories.

How noisy is the 625 compared to the stock engine?

Not too bad until you get to about 3500 rpm, after that it loud. I can't take it to the camp ground until I get a quieter muffler. But it will do 41 mph easily.
