Default Horn button on steering wheel

Hi all,

Has anyone come up with a way to use the horn button (on an aftermarket steering wheel) to control the horn on a drive2 (gas), instead of using the turn signal stalk or the floor button?

I would guess that running the wire into the steering wheel's button would cause the wire to eventually bind that is if it even fits in the first place.

Yes, this is a "first world problem", but I like to tinker.

I saw a guy on YouTube claim to have designed one and said it is patent pending. But nothing on the market.

I saw that too! You could make an available wireless transmitter but I wouldn’t want that drain from the battery all the time.

Put the wireless receiver on an ignition switched circuit.

Sure, but a horn should work even if the car is off

Why not retrofit a spiral cable from a car steering wheel? That could give you more button capability than just horn if you decided to add audio controls or something else to the steering wheel as well :)

Otherwise, you use the steering wheel frame as the ground (which grounds to vehicle frame) and only need 1 wire to just make the horn work. If you drilled a hole through the center and had extra cable, it's just 1 wire and shouldn't knot up or anything. You only get about 2 revolutions of a steering wheel before you hit the locks.

Yes I might take some 18 gauge wire and just try it. Since I have the turn signals option I can run the wires down there if I can find a good way to get them out through the steering wheel adapter. Unfortunately I think that involves drilling into the adapter. I’m afraid the wires would get tangled up in the outside of the column.

Can you adapt/hide something like this behind your steering wheel?

If you can't figure it out, they make coiled cords for boat wheels to put trim on them.

Just do it like the nascar teams and put a couple wraps of the wire around the steering shaft
