Default Yamaha G1 Odd Engine Serial Number

Hi I am new to this forum and recently bought a Yamaha G1 with an engine serial number that does not match any of the G1 serial numbers.
The number is S215-014927. This is what it looks like on the engine.

I found some info that leads me to believe this is a prototype engine due to the metal fenders, box solenoids, and older style clutch which indicates that it is pre 1982 and the serial number doesn't match up so I belive it could be. The thing that should really tell me are the brakes because they use a style of pad from an older Yamaha motorcycle and I am familiar with the normal g1 pads so I will update tomorrow if I figure it out.

79-81 ish carts had metal inner fenders, old style clutch, solenoids and fiberglass front clip as opposed to the later models that had plastic.

The prefix S on the cart seems to appear before 82 model year.I also think the S prefix could also be a replacement engine, warranty or other wise. you will probably find it to be a J10.

If you find the serial number on the frame the last digits should match the last digits of the engine. I think on the frame you'll find j10-014927

there was a few brake changes made over the years and the early carts had different front spindles so the lift kits are not a bolt on.

I do not have the frame anymore just the subframe and parts so I can't match it up.

Would there be any other way to determine what it is by the other parts?

right side of intake boot it should state j10 or j?
right behind the primary clutch the jug will also say j10 or?
The head has it stamped also but its facing down and I don't think you can see it unless the head is off.
It will also be on the carb body.

Mine has weird number ...I can't find it listed anywhere on Yamaha sites..
J32-010815. There is a number under that, its hard to read as the mudflap is obscuring it...85-05.
That frame number is the same on the engine.

You're right it's not listed anywhere but the closest thing to it is j31. Are you sure the numbers are right?

Also I checked mine, it does say j10 on the intake and the carb I couldn't see it but I would assume it is j10 like you said.
