Question New to me G1, where is everyone getting their roof racks?

Hey everyone, new to the golf cart world but seem to be bitten by the golf cart bug. I picked up this G1 for a whopping $80, running but needs some TLC. Planning to use it to cruise around the house, the campground and maybe some hunting. My basic plans are to 1. Replace air filter (missing) 2. Replace choke cable 3. General tune up and carb clean 4. Replace seats 5. Make rear bench seat 6. Bed line the body (want something I don’t have to worry about scratching this isn’t going to be a show pony LOL 7. Add some lights

But my real question is, I have seen numerous G1s on here with a roof, but I can’t find any information on how they are making them or if they are repurposing them from other models etc. I’ve scoured this site for more time than I care to admit but I am having a hard time finding anything. Any insights or suggestions would be helpful.

Looking forward to working on this project over the winter, the G1 seems to be a great cart to get started with!

It may run better if you put it up the right way

Just located the serial number man those are a booger to find. It’s a 1983. Good call on crank seals. It seems to have good compression. Oil was clean as a whistle too. It was an old mans who rooted around the farm with it. Clean place seemed like he took pretty good care of his stuff. I knew him through some farmers and he cut me a deal said he just wanted yet to be used again, it has been sitting for a while but he said he had a farm hand change the oil.

No oil in that engine if it’s still the 2 stroke engine.

Duh sorry guys, should of been more clear. The oil injection tank. I am kind of a worry wart when it comes to oil and gas, I drained it all and replaced. With stuff that old I worry about flakes from the inside of the tank, especially since I am having a carb issue. Taking the carb off tonight to thoroughly clean and waiting for my air filter and choke to get here and install.

If I were you, I'd disconnect the oil injection setup and premix the fuel/oil to 80:1 with a good high quality synthetic air cooled 2 cycle oil. Those injectors often fail, leaving the engine with no lubrication. It's cheap to do this, and it's foolproof. If you use the oil injector, there's really no way to assure that it's working correctly. I've never had one fail, but I've heard many on the forum have.

As far as the roof goes....you won't find many of them. Since the G1 rear body tilts back for engine access, the original roof is only mounted to the rear body and tilts back with the body. This design works as long as you aren't driving over rough terrain or transporting the cart on a trailer at highway speeds (unless you transport it backwards). I think a lot of the G1's didn't even come with the tops, and the ones that did either broke or got removed and thrown away. You might get lucky and find one, keep your eyes peeled.

One thing I've seen some people do.....get a top for a different cart and modify it to fit your G1. I've seen some pretty cool disconnects that people have made to be able to tilt the body back with a 4 post top on it. Just an idea.

Thanks my dad suggested I do that too. It appears to be functional now but I think I will go that route. No sense taking a chance. I was looking for some way to mod a roof with a pin and cotter system potentially. I’ll do some more searching on here and pay better attention to the connections.

As far as my cart has gone, I gave it a through washing and took the seats off. We got it running last night but it would die as soon as we let off the choke. Took the carb apart and looks like someone beat me to it, it’s main jet was tripped and the float was missing a pin and just floating around in there. so instead of messing with it I ordered one off amazon for $20. Got a kit of rhino lining also off amazon and the choke cable, air filter and, a spare set of keys since mine were missing. Should look and run like a whole new cart next week.
