Default G2 goes from 0 to full speed, nothing in between

Hi all, just purchased a new to me, used 1987 G2-AB cart.

Looking for guidance/advice for the, i guess, drivetrain.
Engine has no issue starting but I have to give it a lot of gas for the cart to get moving. Once it does, it gives a jerk and starts going but at full speed.
Drive belt has been replaced with a new one.

Where should I start looking?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Think I found my problem.
The spring in the secondary clutch is broken.

The spring seat looks tore up, and the sheaves are probably worn. I would suggest replacing the entire clutch assy. Both sheaves, spring seat and spring. You'll never have to do it again.

There's this, which is much better than aftermarket parts from china. http://www.plowmanscarts.com/carts.c...1522181677&v=2

Do you have any experience replacing these?
I tried to undo the bolt but everything seems to turn. Not sure how to lockup the transmission or wheels to remove the clutch.

Thanks

At the point that you are at I would use a big pipe wrench to hold the clutch to get the nut off. Then replace everything.

I've never had a problem holding the clutch with my hand and using an impact on the nut. You may need a clutch puller to remove the sheaves.

This is what I did as well and it came right off. Impact gun and puller are money well spent.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Ordered clutch and will try to remove the old one before the new one gets in.

After some fighting and elbow grease, the new clutch is in.

That belt is worn out. A new belt should ride close to the top of the sheaves.
