G1 electrical issue

Hey guys, new to the forum but have been reading about G1’s and all of their issues for several months now. I was hoping to get a clear answer from the pros as to what this last problem is...I’m getting spark (although it seems weak) and after it runs for a few minutes, it starts to run poorly. I repaired the black wire coming out of the back of the motor (there was just 2 strands left), checked the others and installed new connectors. Earlier this year, I did seals (they were both bad), fuel pump, filters, plug, piston/rings/cylinder/gaskets (old piston was flopping around in bore with 70lbs comp). I followed the instructions from a post on how to check the magneto/cdi...I have 760 ohms on the brown wire going back under the flywheel, the others check out ok. So what do I need? Charge coil?

Failure after running a while is usually caused by heat so I would guess coil or cdi box.

I had the exact same problem. It turned out to be a fuel issue instead. Check your throttle shaft to see if it has play in it. When the bushing goes out (from 30 years of use) it will allow air to suck in when it gets hot. The reason for this is that the body of the carb is aluminum and the shaft is steel. Once the aluminum heats up the aluminum will expand slightly and the steel does not which allows just enough air to run between the shaft and spacer. Once i fixed the bushing it ran like a top. I also replaced the coil from weak spark too. At 30+ years it has worn itself out. Check out my thread and see if you have similar problems.

Thanks guys, just got it fixed this evening....the spark was good and not intermittent like I once thought. However, the carb has a vent and the hose connected to it was clogged, new hose and all is good again. In my search for a pulsar and charge coil, I scored a complete used G1 engine (no carb), a decent muffler along with a couple of things I was missing on mine. I’ll just put that on the shelf for later hahahaha

I wish I could find old G1/parts down in in Aussie....Impossible they seem to disappeared like my youth...lol.
