Default Yamaha G16 won't move - axle or gear?

Hi all,

amateur mechanic here trying to diagnose why my 97 G16 won't move. Put rear end up, took wheels off, and both hubs spin (though they look weak). So it appears not a lot of power is getting to the wheels.

driver side hub wobbles and it sounds like a bearing is bad. so where do I begin? do I pull the axle out? open up the gear box? remove the entire axle? any clues on what to look for and where to start. Hoping to avoid making the problem worse.

Thanks
lancer

more like the hub splines are stripped.

Thanks. Found a video that shows worn splines, in this case the stripped splines are in the gear box. I'll check the splines at the hub first as you suggest and report back

In trying to remove the main nut holding the hub to the axel, the axel turns freely. I was expecting resistance. Is this an indicator that the axel splines going into the gear box are the problem, or perhaps the axel is broken?

The golf cart is in gear, not in neutral.

Thanks
