Whining noise before G2 starts
My G2 is running well. However, sometimes when you climb in and hit the gas to take off it kind of whines for a few seconds before it bursts into life. It's almost like its fighting to turn over. I have a high torque clutch and spring installed and the belts were replaced at the same time. The battery was replaced recently too. Any ideas? Cheers, Drew

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
Probably the starter/generator, if it has good power to it & all connections are good then your next port of call is pulling the brushes out to see if they are worn or filthy. Mine were a little worn & the inside of the unit was very dirty. Has been 90% better since so will try new brushes next.

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
Thanks for that. The starter generator was rebuilt about a year ago. I know it's easy to take out, but is the other stuff easy for a mechanical incompetent to do?

Sounds like a loose belt to me?

The starter generator belt? Any tricks to adjusting that? Seems easy to me but see earlier post re my mechanical incompetence...

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
For me, I take out the air box assembly. Loosen the 12mm adjusting bolt nut and the 17mm pivot bolt and nut. Then use a pry bar/ wooden hammer handle to put tension back on the belt. Tighten the adjusting bolt nut, then the pivot bolt. Hope that helped alittle.

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
That belt is just like an old school alternator on a car, pivots on one bolt & another clamps it in place. You should see the starter spinning but not the belt if that's loose.
The drive belt on the clutches should be loose when at rest, if so the clutch shouldn't impact the initial turning over AFAIK. Sent from my Moto Z2 Play using Tapatalk |

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
My G9 did the same thing after I rebuilt the engine. Turned out to be a bad connection between the battery terminals and the battery posts. Cleaned both up with a wire wheel and been perfect ever since.

Re: Whining noise before G2 starts
Right battery cables like to do that mine has a few times, and I'm going to replace them. Also loose belt, however the belt can get old and hard and has to be mega tight to not slip. Its time to buy a new belt if that happens.
