Default Hello all!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, I am new to the site and I joined because I have ran into an issue with my G2. This looked the place to start asking!!!!

This all started with a the starter. I put a new one on and it ran fine. I changed the oil, it ran fine. I washed the cart, and it ran fine. I went to load it up to go play, and it wont run above idle. I pulled the plug, and it seems to be firing. The engine spits and backfires at any throttle above idle. I removed the carburetor and it is clean. The crazy thing is if i put it in neutral and bring the throttle right up to where it starts missing, and I turn the key off, and right before the engine stalls, turn the key back on, it will pick up and run for about 30 seconds like a new one! Don't ask how I came up with that, just checking the key and it happened. Could the coil be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like a air/fuel mixture problem so to speak. This model cart has a fuel filter that is in the bottom of the tank and notorious for getting deteriorated and clogging up. Follow the fuel line coming off the fuel pump to the tank. It just screws on. I actually cut these out and install an inline fuel filter. You may need to also pull the fuel pump, take it apart, and clean it out. Get a new spark plug too. The plugs on these carts are very easily fowled. Also check the vacuum line coming off the fuel pump and going to the back part of the engine. It is what helps the fuel pump pump fuel. Start with this and let us know. It may end up being a valve problem but sounds more like air/fuel mixture at this point.

Ok, checked the fuel filter, set the valves, put the spark checker on the plug, made sure the airbox is sealed, still no acceleration!!!! Engine starts as soon as the pedal is pressed then assumes missing and spitting when the throttle is advanced. Could it be the CDI box? Not sure how to "test" one.

I doubt it is an ignition module problem. I won't rule it out but usually those are either good or bad and no inbetween. They are expensive too. Still sounds more like air/fuel/spark issue somewhere.

Check the spacer between the carb. and intake. Make sure it is not cracked or damaged and causing air to leak. Try jacking the cart up for safety, put it in neutral, pull the hose off the carb. and see if you can get it to run ok that way or if it still spits and spudders. Lightly spray some carb. cleaner while working the throttle and see if anything changes.

Spriddle, I am assuming to pull the fuel line off? I did that as well, still no good. I ran it until it ran out of gas. But I need to check the spacer. I have noticed that it will run with the choke closed for a good while before it smothers out. Thanks!!! Oh yeah!! You are right on the cost of the CDI!!! $210!!!!!!!!!!!

No, pull the inlet hose to the carb. that goes to the air box. Looks like a radiator hose. With this off and the carb. throttle area completely open (so could spray cleaner into it), see if it changes anything about the way it runs. Also see if it runs any different when you pull out on the choke. Jack the cart up, use safety stands, and put it in neutral.

Ok. I've pulled that one off too. No change. This thing has me baffled!!!!!! I've worked on everything from lawn mowers to airplanes!!! Fuel, fire, air, power!!!!!! It may very well be that spacer though, that would create a lean condition, I'll look at it after work. Thanks again!!!

I'll mention this since you say you work on mowers, etc... You sound familiar with small engines. Here's how I test spacers on my carts but you will really need to be careful: I lightly spray carb. cleaner around the area to see if it starts changing the way it runs. Just be very very careful with anything flamable around a hot engine or spark. You might try wd40 or something as well. There are 2 10mm nuts holding the carb. on. If you remove them and reinstall, be sure not to overtighten. Just snug them. You'll crack the spacer very easily if you overtighten.

Yes, I've worked on everything I own!!! That happens when you own junk!! :) I appreciate all the help. That spacer appears to be plastic or a phenolic type material. Just not sure how it could've cracked, but hey, stranger things have happened!!
