Default 80s Yamaha G1 full throttle goes slow

Hey guys!

So my kid was driving the G1 for a week no problems then it started going slow. Figured it was out of gas. Tried pulling the choke didn't help. Figured the exhaust was clogged so took it off and it's currently in the BBQ aka fire pit. I tried to see if the cart would go without the exhaust. Well same result would go but super slow.

I looked and haven't seen anyone else having this with the same results!

Thanks in advance.

Lift off the ground the rear tires of the cart with a hydraulic jack. while pressing the gas pedal look at the rear clutch to see if it is shifting from low gear to high gear. It may have lost the retaining clip and with that the required pressure from the spring to hold the belt. If needed check YouTube to see how regular operation looks like.

the engine is not running at all thats just your starter/generator spinning everything over. start with the basics. Get an inline spark checking tool from any auto parts store and check for spark. When you pull the plug make sure its not wet, aka flooded out. Rent a compression gauge and test compression. autozone rents these for the price of the tool and you can return it for a full refund after words, that's how their tool rentals work as long as you don't damage the tool.Check the inline fuses by your solenoids too.

Looking at your exhaust and the intake its an 83 or later so your looking for 120 psi compression.

Has spark and has 150 compression. Spark plug seems to have a clean burn.
