G9 project, getting 17.5V at the battery
I have wrapped up a complete engine rebuild on a G9 cart I acquired over the winter. Cart is pretty much stock, runs great everything seems good. I checked the voltage at the battery when cart was in neutral and I'm getting 17.5v to at the battery. In my experience with carts, I've never seen a voltage regulator fail on the high side of things, only fail and not work. Just looking for some input on this! Thank you for your time.

Re: G9 project, getting 17.5V at the battery
I have a G22. Output is usually >16 volts. I think the theory is if used on a golf course, there isn’t much charging time because of start/stop. I would think it would be extremely hard on batteries used for non golf use....but I guess time will tell.

17.5 is high and I have seen some voltage regulators fail high like that. I would get another one.

Re: G9 project, getting 17.5V at the battery
I ordered a new one. Come to find out, the current voltage regulator is from a G1, so it was "modified" when installed to fit properly. Gonna go with the new one and re-evaluate. Thanks Folks!

Yamahas are prone to this issue, even on the drive model. You can modify the wiring so it charges at 14.5 volts, but see if the voltage regulator fixes it.

Re: G9 project, getting 17.5V at the battery
So when I plug in the new voltage regulator the 10A fuse blows. I haven't had time to troubleshoot yet, was playing with it before work this morning, sounds like a clear wiring issue to me, so I'll have to chase that down. This sound like a familiar issue with G9's?

Aftermarket, I have a spare OEM part I am going to try later today, and if that works then I've learned my lesson.........
