Default Couple of Questions on my 81 G1...

Whats up everyone, This is my first post on this forum, Im also on BU as Chase...

I want to check and possible change my rear diff oil? Where is the Drain and Refill Bolt, or Plug?

And i need to get it registered, Is there a location on the frame where the DMV can verify the VIN #? I moved from San Diego, to Utah and they want to verify the VIN numbers on all my vehicles.

Any help would be great..

Thanks
Jesse

Welcome chase!! Glad you made it over.

I believe the number is on the left side rear frame cross member right below
the bumper.

I don't know about the drain and refill bolt, click here maybe it will help.

I'm also looking for details on the rear diff. It looks as if an oil line runs into the differential, what is this for? Also, what oil do I use, standard 80/90 wieght? How much oil do you use to refill the diff? Also, any pictures or diagrams would help.

Thanks!!!

Ok, changing the differential oil was simple. There are two bolts on the passenger side of the case. The one on the bottom is the drain and the one further towards the back is the fill line.

1. Take the bottom bolt out to drain the oil.

2. Then remove the fill line bolt.

3. There's a rubber fill cap that you need to remove in order to squirt the oil back in.

4. Replace the bottom drain plug, leaving the fill line plug out.

5. Squirt the 80/90 weight oil in the opening to fill until it starts overflowing out of the fill line bolt.

6. Replace the fill line bolt and you're complete.

is the parts manual, it breaks everything down from piece to piece.
