RTV instead of valve cover gasket?
I'm new to go carts, but have used RTV for various gaskets in the past on other mechanical projects. Valve covers are low pressure, its seems like I could just use red RTV.
Terrible idea or okay? This isn't a long term fix, I just want to try to put things together and see if I can get it running instead of waiting a week for shipping a gasket. I have thoroughly cleaned both surfaces of the, presumably original, gasket. |

Itll work fine. Only issues you may run into is next time you take it off, having to scrape it and be careful not to get any inside the motor, especially since theres no filter

Re: RTV instead of valve cover gasket?
I'd use black or grey rtv. But it should work. Make sure you only put a thin skin on one side. Let it air dry for a few and then install but don't tighten all the way or it'll just ooze out. Wait overnight. Then torque down.
