Default G 14 Motor Build

What does it take to enhance one of these motors? Mine runs fine but I cant leave anything alone. Was looking for some information and a parts list that I could put together over the summer then maybe rebuild the motor over the winter. I have already rebuilt the primary, heavier spring in the secondary. 6" lift and 12" tires. My buddy just got a cart so I am hoping he will buy my 12's and I will get some new 14's, maybe fresh paint for next year.

Thoughts?

What are you wanting to do with the cart?
If you just drive around on pavement through the neighborhood, or campground, I'd say leave it alone. Anything you do to the engine may take away the reliability and durability. Also
the question of how much power do you really "need" comes into play. If you aren't hauling anything, towing anything, and you aren't having times when you just "need" more power....then I'd leave it alone. Especially if it runs good.

What kind of result are you looking for with the build?
If you are looking for more power, you can get more power with a stock engine, sure. All the old hot rod tricks can be employed. But the power to dollar ratio might be a little high. There aren't any "kits" for these engines because these engines were never designed to be powerhouses. They were meant to last a long time, being driven daily on the golf course, lots of stop and go, different drivers, different conditions. My point is, you can't really expect a lot from these stock engines. Your level of mechanical ability and your wallet will be your limiting factors.

Now, if you just "WANT MORE POWER"..... an engine upgrade is the way to go. You have several choices. My list below is in "cost" order.
1.) Harbor Freight Predator 420cc (almost double stock power)
2.) Vegas Carts 460cc kit (more than double stock power)
3.) Vegas Carts 625cc (best value/good power)
4.) Harbor Freight Predator 670cc Vtwin (good low end)
5.) Cart Parts Plus Briggs Vanguard 23hp kit (best power/reliability)

Engine upgrades aren't for the faint of heart. It takes time, planning, money, time, patience, time, and mechanical ability. If you spend the bucks on #5 you'll be grinning from ear to ear everytime you drive the cart, and you won't pull your hair out installing the kit. CPP and Vegas Carts are both great companies and sponsors of the site.

Actually driving and trying some mods on my G 14 from 2008-2014 I came to the conclusion for any REAL power increase an engine swap was called for. I went with and continue to run a modded VC 460. P.S. There is no data anywhere that the Briggs is any more durable or reliable than some of the other engines listed when modified for more rpms. You can look at countless ultralite ,pulling tractors, and mud motors evaluations. They are however much more expensive to buy and modify.

I'd pick one of these 2. It all depends on HOW much more power you want, and how you want the cart to operate. What are you really going for?

https://vegascarts.com/collections/6...yamaha-g16-g22 for a bolt in big power upgrade engine swap. Cart wont operate like factory anymore, (key start not pedal start) and be noticeably louder (as with any motor swap).

Www.plowmanscarts.com if you want to keep stock operation, noise levels, reliability but add more power. Don can guide you.

Plowman's really doesn't make much for the G 14 and with the Vegascarts clone kits with either some one else's clone or their VC 460 DIY you can keep the pedal start.
